Institute of Practical Politics

Students

Every semester, the Civitas Institute of Practical Politics holds a Campaign School for college students. Over the course of four months, students will learn the basics of campaign management including, how to: create and draft an effective campaign plan; earn media; carry out a successful fundraising campaign; formulate a campaign budget; and create your own opposition research plan. National political experts from Washington D.C. and North Carolina convey their own experiences in politics and campaigns in order to offer a real life perspective to proven management techniques.

Interested students should contact Jeff Mixon at jeff.mixon@nccivitas.org.

The Civitas Institute of Practical Politics goes beyond the average political science class. The class takes college and graduate students into the world of practical politics by teaching the fundamentals of campaign management. Well-known, experienced Democrat and Republican political consultants teach the course. Students work together as members of campaign teams to apply what they learn in class by planning strategy and a media program for competing North Carolina congressional campaigns.

Students will gain practical experience with:

- Campaign plan
- Finance plan
- Advertising plan
- Earned Media
- Paid Media
- Direct Mail
- Polling
- And Much More!

Classes are held every Wednesday afternoon from 3-6 p.m. in the RTP.

- Tuition: Free for all North Carolina college and graduate students
- Dinner is provided at every class
